Katharine Story

Biography

Katharine Story creates nature-inspired, handmade creations with vintage elements. Her collection is vigilantly sculptured, uniting ingredients of comfort, luxurious fabrics, and vintage applications. She understands a woman’s body and believes that fashions should accentuate natural curves rather than letting the garment dictate where the body’s lines should be. All that Katharine ever needed to know nature has provided. Her design aesthetic: mix sunsets of purple and pink, bright white sands, deep jewel tones of exotic flowers and a dash of 60’s simplicity. There are no zippers or fitted silhouettes in Story’s collection—her hand-tied leather and suede closures let the natural shape of the body define the shape of the garment. Vintage elements are combined with bold hand-dyed fabrics to make her designs appear both foreign and familiar.

Other signature items include her Kabbalah t-shirts, recycled denim, vintage re-designed jewelry, colorful handbags and bejeweled belts. A self-taught designer and spiritual realist, Katharine Story knows that her fashions aren’t for everyone. Katharine Story has no formal training, yet her thriving fashion business is now 11 years old in California. Her boutique is located on beautiful Ocean Avenue in Laguna Beach. After closing both her Melrose Avenue and West 3rd Street boutique in Los Angeles, she still dresses several of her loyal LA and celebrity clients. Katharine Story's one of a kind pieces have been featured in Ocean Magazine, Coast Magazine, Riviera, Apparel News, Damsel Magazine, and other various publications.
